Friendship and women's health: A magical connection

Friends are one of the main reasons we smile; they provide comfort, help, and support. Your friends, your companions for a cup of coffee, and in good times and bad, are the first ones you share your good news with and the first you run to when you are sad. In this article, which I dedicate to my friends everywhere, I will talk about friendship and its positive impact on women's physical and mental health.

The importance of friends in a woman's life

The famous study conducted by Harvard University on happiness, which lasted 85 years during which successive generations of researchers followed the lives of more than seven hundred people from different social circles, showed that the reason for the participants' happiness was not their wealth, career success, or other material matters but positive human relationships.

Another study that followed the lives of the longest-living peoples on the planet found that the common factor among these people, whether they reside in a tropical forest, an island, a city, or a village, is their presence among people they love and with whom they have positive relationships.

Despite the vital impact of human relationships other than friendship, such as marriage and relationships with extended family members, friendship remains the special relationship in a person's life, especially if it is an old friendship with like-minded people with whom we share unforgettable experiences.

Reflect on this data on your relationships so that you realize the positive impact of healthy friendships on your life, happiness, and health.

The effect of friendship on women's health

1| Better mental health

Do you remember how you felt when you shared an idea and one of your friends understood you immediately? Or when you find something in common with one of your friends? This boost of happiness and energy has a substantial positive impact on your physical and mental health.

Do not forget the laughter and beautiful memories you share with your friends. Laughter is free medicine that heals the soul, the heart, and the body. When you laugh with others, you will put a lot of energy into it, eliminating any tension or sadness you felt before this meeting. Laughter is contagious, so the effect of laughing with your friends will be more significant than watching a comedy movie alone at home.

2| A cure for loneliness

Women experience periods of loneliness, especially when their children grow up and leave home. The years of isolation imposed on us by the pandemic have proven the profound negative impact of loneliness and social isolation on our physical and psychological health alike. Therefore, hanging out with friends and staying connected with your female friends is the best cure for loneliness, especially as you get older.

3| Improving overall health

Positive friendships have a great impact on reducing stress in our lives. When you are worried about something or someone, you always call your best friend, complain to her, and share your worries with her. This sharing will immediately reduce anxiety and stress levels, which are some of the most important causes of many diseases that affect women, most notably heart diseases, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, and others.

4| Record memories

Your friend is not only a companion for shopping trips and a cup of coffee; she is the living diary where you keep your memories and the vault of your secrets. When you bid farewell to a friend, you say goodbye to a part of your history that you shared with her over the years of your friendship. That's why you feel like a 20-year-old when you meet your college friend and a child when you meet your dear childhood friend. You regain a precious part of your history through these meetings, an essential pillar of your formation.

5| Boost self-esteem

One of the most serious problems facing young girls and modern women is a lack of self-confidence, which opens the way for a toxic marriage, bullying at work, and other problems that women are exposed to in their personal and professional lives. However, loyal and loving friends are the biggest cheerleaders and supporters. This support, encouragement, and unconditional love help enhance self-confidence and give women the empowerment and strength they need to face life's various problems.

Self-esteem is also an important means of combating stress and depression and enhancing mental health, which directly affects physical health.

Conclusion,

We all need a connection to others and positive relationships in our lives. As for friendships in a woman's life and the role of female friends, they are essential for survival in this harsh reality, and they are among the most critical factors that positively affect physical and psychological health.

Happy friendship day to all loyal friends everywhere. To my female friends, I love you and am grateful for your presence in my life.
